Someone in the league had a question regarding the foul line that I thought was appropriate for the Ask The Dart Guy forum. The following is a copy of the email that was sent, excluding the author's name...
I have a question about the toe line. do you have to stay behind the line the whole entire time, or just as long as the dart has left your hand before you step over the line?
What you are referring to is called a lunge. Some people allow their trailing foot to move forward across the line during their shot.
The trail foot is allowed across the line as long as the dart scores before the trailing foot lands on the floor beyond the foul line.
If the trail foot lands on the floor prior to the dart being scored on the board, it constitutes a foul enforceable by protest as a violation of league rules. Below is a link to the league rules on our website for more information.
To answer your question, it isn't a matter of whether the dart leaves your hand, but a matter of when the dart reaches the board. If a person steps over the line and touches the floor before the darts registers, they are committing a foul line violation.
First violation results in a verbal warning from the TEAM CAPTAIN to the OPPOSING CAPTAIN - NOT THE PLAYER COMMITTING THE FOUL.
Second violation results in forfeiture of game. The protesting captains must then follow the Protest Procedures described in the league rules. |
