During a game of Team 01, a player passed part of their turn to freeze their opponent who was to shoot after them. This resulted in the frozen player accusing their opponent of poor sportsmanship.

The ESD Rulebook in Section E 3 b says a player may pass all or part their turn.

My take on this is not only is this legal, but it also a good use of strategy against your opponent.

Ever been up to the line with a high out? Two darts in and your left wondering whether to go for the win, with a chance of busting back to your original score, or pass the last dart, freezing your opponent, and give your partner a better postion to go for the win?

I have always thought that good strategy can overcome slightly better shooting. I have been on both sides of this...

On one side, feeling devilishly clever for freezing someone when I had a high out, and now I am down to single digit where if I miss and I open the door for the guy after me to go out.

On the other side, feeling owned after my opponent passes their turn without going for the win, leaving me frozen. In all honesty, of course I was wishing they would take the shot. If they miss I get a chance to go out or at least get down. Ultimately, their partner then cruises to an easy out, and takes the game.

I can't fault someone for using a little strategy. After all, I am responsible for not shooting lights out to keep myself from being in that position. The funny part is, although I am the one frozen, it is my partner who isn't down far enough to let me go out. Now, your upset at not only your opponent, but possibly your teammate as well.

When your in a group where everyone knows one another, the results can be comical.

I just remember my teammate saying..."Don't let 'em get in your head, bro"

Truer words were never spoken.

Leave the guy alone for playing a little defense. What little we are allowed to play in darts anyway. Strategy is part of our game, and no one, not even me, likes to admit he's been deked out of his shorts by someone else.
